  • Abstract:

The amount of solar heat gain in tropics particularly Nigeria which is aided by heat absorption of glass are significant due to its thermal properties are the first things to consider. Shading devices play an essential role in reflecting or admitting solar radiation into the building. This study aims at determining the ideal shading devices design in dealing with solar radiation through the windows system for energy efficiency. One of the objectives of the aim above is examining and analyzing different fenestration system design parameters of residential buildings with the help of computer simulation. Windows' system properties and shading devices performance cansignificantly affect the building's annual energy consumption, peak load of mechanical cooling system and carbon dioxide emissions. This study will, therefore, prove that about an 18% reduction in the building's annual energy consumption is possible. Furthermore, it will help the designers and stakeholders to identify simple and sufficient factors in improving buildings' energy consumption and thermal comfort..

  • Abstract:

In India speaking skills are neglected by non-native speakers; as a result, they failed to master the correct accent which is essential for their career. Keeping in view, the importance of English language, Indian Universities have set up Phonetics of English in all the engineering colleges and facilitated students to overcome MTI and turn out to be mutually intelligible with neutralized accent. It also identified the gap of speaking skills and assisted students to get exposed to all the aspects of Phonetics in practical Laboratory sessions. The present paper is a research which studies the phonetic variation of English vowels as spoken by Telugu speakers. The methodology is based on collecting data which is supplemented by the field notes and obtained by means of a questionnaire- written and spoken skills. Audio recording was taken and transcribed for words, sentences and minimal pairs. It includes zonal and gender variation......

  • Abstract:

Background: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) reduces walking performance (WELCH questionnaire). In addition, patients with PAD may have higher resting heart rate (RHR) values. Exercise may be an alternative to improve the WELCH and RHR score. Aerobic training (AT) is indicated by the guidelines. Strength training (ST) may also be an alternative for improving the WELCH and RHR score. However, the combination of AT and ST (combined training - CT) is rarely used in PAD, raising questions about its effects on the WELCH and RHR score. Objective: To evaluate the effect of AT versus CT on the WELCH and RHR score in patients with PAD. Methods: Randomized clinical trial that enrolled 17 patients with PAD. All had classification of Fontaine 2b. They were divided into 2 groups: aerobic training group (ATG, n = 9) and combined training group (CTG, n = 8). Outcomes were assessed before and after 12 weeks..

  • Abstract:

Single crystals of pure and mixed KDP-ADP of high quality are grown by gel method.UV-Vis. optical transmission spectrum showed the UV cutoff wavelength of mixed KDP-ADP crystal decreases with increasing concentration of ADP. The NLO property of the mixed KDP-ADP crystals is lesser than that of the pure KDP and higher than that of ADP. Photoconductivity study confirms that the pure and mixed KDP-ADP crystals exhibit positive photoconductivity. The absence of absorption bands in the visible region and the wide bandgap of the grown crystal attest to the suitability of the grown crystal for photonic and optical applications.

  • Abstract:

Despite the greater adjuvant activity of aluminum hydroxide at smaller particle size, nanoparticles suspension of aluminum hydroxide has low stability due to ease particle aggregation. In an attempt to find approaches to produce aluminum hydroxide nanoparticle suspension with high stability, a study was undertaken of the effect of stabilizers on the physical stability and protein adsorptive capacity. Three types of stabilizers, i.e., trehalose, polyvinyl alcohol, and sodium polyphosphate at various concentrations were investigated. Aluminum hydroxide nanoparticles were synthesized by precipitation-homogenization method using aluminum chloride and sodium hydroxide solution. The physical stability of suspension was evaluated by measuring the decantation degree. The protein adsorptive capacity of aluminum suspension was evaluated using BSA as a model antigen. The results indicated that the physical stability and protein adsorptive capacity of aluminum suspension was highly depended on stabilizer type and concentration. Sodium polyphosphate seems to be most suitable stabilizer of aluminum hydroxide nanoparticles suspension..

There are different TCP variations and each one place with the different criteria. In the mobile ad hoc networks, the topology changes habitually due to mobile nodes, this leads to significant packet losses and network throughput degradation. This is because of the fact that TCP neglects to recognize the path failure and network congestion. In this paper we discuss about the congestion problem in Adhoc networks and compare the performance of two TCP variants that both work on different techniques. We describe a variant of TCP (Reno, NewReno), TCP is most widely used transport protocol in both wired and wireless networks. This paper compares TCP variants specifically TCP Reno and NewReno based on the packet Delivery Radio ..

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) is a process of powder metallurgy, similar to the plastic injection process. This process is ideal for obtaining parts of complex geometry, difficult to machinability, small batches with finishing and final dimensions, or not. The MPI, part generation process, has several steps that must be carefully followed to avoid errors that compromise product quality. The objective of this work was to produce parts with different polymers in a binder, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), and Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR) and after comparing them. Results obtained in this research showed that the parts injected with HDPE showed no defects after injection. The parts injected with Thermoplastic Rubber offered, according to the obtained results, an excellent mechanical resistance when compared to those that used HDPE.

We estimate the Bitcoin volatility usingthe realized stochastic volatility model. The model parameters are determined by Bayesian inference usingthe Markov chain Monte Carlo method. We apply the hybrid Monte Carlo method for the volatility update process, which is the most time-consuming part. We investigate several integrators in the hybrid Monte Carlo method and find that the 2nd order minimum norm integrator outperforms the others. The parameterphiof the model is found to be close to one, which indicates that the Bitcoin volatility ispersistent. We test the accuracy of the estimated volatilities by using standardized returns. The distribution of the standardized returns is found to be close to the standard normal distributions, which indicates that the volatility is estimated accurately by the realized stochastic volatility model..

  • Abstract:

Linear analysis is used in determining the forces and moments that occur in a structure due to external loads commonly. However, linear analysis (first-order) has not been able to accommodate the forces and moments that occur in the analyzed structure, such as in column members. In this case, the effects and moments that occur in the column will be enlarged due to lateral deformation. According to American Concrete Institute (ACI) regulations, can be approximated by usingmoment magnifier method, which is multiplying by a factor δ. The moment enlargement method can be used if the column slenderness (kl / r) between(22≤ kl⁄r≤100). This numerical study uses column slenderness between this value so that linear analysis (first-order) is not possible to be applied because there isa moment magnification factor with the moment magnifier methodshould be considered during analysis. The result shows thatanalysis of column slenderness effect the second-order analysis conducted on buildings with variations....

  • Abstract:

This paper proposes a method to obtain the optimal settings of the protection scheme that is used to protect the distribution system in presence of distributed generation. The most common protection devices for the distribution systems are the overcurrent devices such as overcurrent relays, Auto-Reclosers (ARs) and fuses. The objective of the optimization process is to minimize the total operating time of the used protection devices. The objective is satisfied by determining the optimum pickup currents and the time dial settings for the protection devices. This provides faults isolation as fast as possible. The Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm is applied in this paper to the proposed system to optimize the protection system parameters and eliminate any failure may be occurred to the protection scheme. The proposed method is applied on IEEE-13 node test system. The results obtained from the proposed method are compared with the results obtained without applying the optimization technique. The coordination failure cases are eliminated using those new settings proving the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

  • Abstract:

Drinking water crisis is one the global risk, in which around 200 children are dying per day. Drinking unsafe water alone causes around 3 million deaths per year. Despite the advancements in technology, efficient quality measures are not present to measure the quality of drinking water. In order to avoid this problem, This proposed work proposes a low cost water quality monitoring system using emerging technologies such as Machine Learning, IoT, and Cloud Computing which can replace the traditional way of quality monitoring. This will help the people who lives in rural areas to save their lives from dangerous diseases such as cholera, fluorosis, bone deformities etc. The proposed model has a capacity to control temperature of water and adjusts it so as to suit for environment temperature.

  • Abstract:

White organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) have been fabricated by combining a blue phosphorescent OLED with an external phosphor conversion layer (PCL). The PCL is formed from red CaMoO4:Eu3+ phosphor by spin-coating technique. By adjusting the thickness and concentration of PCL, a white light emission with the CIE coordinates of (0.32, 0.40) is obtained. At the same time, the WOLED shows an optimal luminous efficiency of 27.5 cd/A. The CIE surrounds pure white light (0.33, 0.33) and can be tunable in a wide range by varying PCL coating speed. Moreover, utilizing a micro-cavity in the blue OLED structure to fabricate WOLED with a coated-PCL, the WOLED demonstrates the CIE coordinate of (0.30, 0.34), which is close to the position of pure white light (0.33, 0.33)..

Current design practices of Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) structures of steel are lacking in order to follow basic codal provisions, which results in serious damages of structure by different member failures and loss of money and lives. The current study is based on various case studies, observations and parametric studies of PEB structures. There is a common practice to ignore basic clauses during design of PEB structures in order to achieve economy and leaving structure under designed and unsafe. Also, in existing structures sometimes designer becomes ignorant to adopt corrective measures to make structure safe. Therefore, this work is a step to highlight basic clauses to be followed in PEB design and suggest remedies for existing PEB structures to make them safe through.....

  • Abstract:

Herbicides are phytotoxic substances ostensibly used in agriculture and responsible for significant impacts on the soil, posing a risk to many organisms. This makes it urgent to find strategies to remove or deactivate these compounds. The aim of this work was to verify the biodegrading potential of two wild Bacillus safensis strains, recovered from sugarcane cultivation soil. After acclimation, the strains were inoculated into soils contaminated with 50 mg.Kg-1 of ametryn (AMT) or hexazinone (HZN) and left for 60 days. Bioaugmention and biostimulation were associated by the addition of fertilizer and lipopeptide. Herbicide degradation was evaluated by the determination of CO2 concentration (mg.g-1 of soil) and pH monitoring. Both strains presented similar results. In reactors containing HZN, the maximum gas production reached about 1600 mg.g-1, while in reactors containing AMT, the production approached 800 mg.g-1, suggesting a higher recalcitrance of the compound. The best conditions were in the reactors to which lipopeptide and fertilizer had been added, compared to those where only lipopeptide was present. The germination index in two plants demonstrated that the strain degraded the herbicides, pointing to Cucumis anguria as the best indicator of toxicity..
