  • Abstract:

Saudi Arabia has been exploring the potential of renewable energy for many years. Saudi authorities, scientists, and researchers view the generation of renewable energy as a viable long-term energy strategy. Despite this, because Saudi Arabia is one of the leading oil producing nations and relies heavily on it as a form of energy and source of income, solar energy has not been given much serious consideration. However, it has become more and more evident that for the continuing prosperity of the nation and the inevitable gradual decline in long-term oil production, it is essential to explore and invest in alternative energy sources. The main objectives of this research are: i) to establish the potential of solar energy generation as a suitable........

  • Abstract:

This paper describes the technique for real time human face detection and tracking for age rank, weight and gender estimation. Face detection is involved with finding whether there are any faces in a given image and if there are any faces present, track the face and returns the face region with features of each face. Here it describes a simple and convenient hardware implementation of face detection method using Raspberry Pi Processor, which itself is a minicomputer of a credit card size. This paper presents a cost-sensitive ordinal hyperplanes ranking algorithm for human age evaluation based on face images. Two main components for building an efficient age estimator are facial feature extraction and estimator learning. Using feature extraction and comparing with our input database in which we have different age group face images............

  • Abstract:

Limit state method helps to design structures based on both safety and serviceability. The structures are designed to withstand ultimate loads or the loads at which failure occurs unlike working stress method where only service loads are considered. This leads to enhanced safety. Also unlike the working stress method, the structures are economical. It is also better than ultimate load method as serviceability requirement is also taken care of by considering various safety factors for all the load types and structures do not undergo massive deflection and cracks. For tubular sections, higher strength to weight ratio could result in upto 30% savings in steel .Due to the high torsional rigidity and compressive strength, Tubular sections behave more efficiently than conventional steel section This study is regarding the economy, load carrying capacity of all structural members and their corresponding safety measures.

  • Abstract:

Reliable prediction of lipophilicity in organic compounds involves molecular descriptors determination. In this work, the lipophilicity of a set of twenty-three molecules has been determined using up to seven various empirical descriptors. According to Quantitative Structure Property Relationship (QSPR) method, a first set of fourteen molecules was used as training set whereas a second set of nine molecules was used as test set. Calculations made with empirical descriptors, after a severe statistical analysis, have led to establish a QSPR relation able to predict molecular lipophilicity with over 95% confidence.

Among the imaging techniques, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-contact and a non-invasive technique to obtain images of the objects rich in water content and provides an excellent tool to study variation of contrast among the soft issues. It often utilizes a linear magnetic field gradient to obtain an image that combines the visualization of molecular structure and dynamics. It measures the characteristics of hydrogen nuclei of water and nuclei with similar chemical shifts, modified by chemical environment across the object. In the present work, MRI of fresh tomatoes has been recorded using Terranova-MRI for qualitative analysis. The technique is effective, powerful and reliable as an investigative tool in the quality analysis and diagnosis of infections in fruits and vegetables.

Surface roughness has significant effect on functionality and service life of components. If surface roughness is properly controlled then, performance of the component enhances in operational applications. Surface roughness becomes key concern when intricate profiles and shapes are required to be manufactured in components. The objective of the paper is to bring up an adequate surface roughness in finish cut by optimizing process variables. If initial surface form is obtained by proper control of machining parameters then additional finishing efforts and lead time reduce a lot. In the industrial tool room survey availability of machining data is prime concern in terms of tuned process parameter for precision machining.............

Refrigerator is a household appliance used to preserve the foods, vegetables, beverages at low temperature. Refrigerant is the blood of the refrigerator and it changes its phase to transfer heat for giving cooling effect inside the refrigerator. Generally many refrigerator works under the vapour compression cycle and it uses only one refrigerant. Each and every refrigerant used in the refrigerator must have disadvantages, to overcome this problem we use mixed refrigerant (two different refrigerants with different properties are mixed together). In this project combination of R600a (isobutane) and R134a (1, 1, 1, 2-tetrafluroethane) is selected as a mixed refrigerant. R600a have some good properties like zero ODP, zero GWP and high latent heat of vapourization and R134a is non-toxic, non-flammable, non-corrosive and zero ODP.

This study investigates the effect of using A/C refrigerant to reduce the temperature of the coolant in a vehicle cooling system. An increase in coolant temperature due to harsh working conditions increases fuel consumption and leads to a reduction in engine power. Modifying vehicle air-conditioning by passing the suction line of the A/C system through the heat exchanger located in the lower part of the radiator (down flow type) can significantly improve the performance of the engine cooling system. The results show a reduction in the temperature of coolant within the cooling system, thus maintaining a controlled working temperature within the allowable limits.

The Darwinian networks (DNs) are first introduced by Dr Butz [1] to simplify and clarify how to work with Bayesian networks (BNs). DNs can unify modeling and reasoning tasks into a single platform using the graphical manipulation of the probability tables that takes on a biological feel. From this view of the DNs, we propose a graphical library to represent and depict non-relational databases using DNs. Because of the growing of this kind of databases, we need even more tools to help in the management work, and the DNs can help with these tasks.

This Analysis designs a two-loop proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller for an inverted cart– pendulum system via pole placement technique, where the (dominant) closed-loop poles to be placed at the desired locations are obtained from an Linear quadratic regulator (LQR) design. It is seen that in addition to yielding better responses (because of additional integral action) than this LQR (equivalent to two-loop PD controller) design, the proposed PID controller is robust enough. The performance and of the PID compensation are verified through simulations as well as experiments...........

The present study focuses on an impact phenomenon of two spheres and its rebound property. The collision of two spheres is a fundamental problem with impact phenomenon. The coefficient of restitution characterizes the property of impact phenomenon and has been estimated in general by experiment. In addition, it has been tried to estimate the coefficient by analytical and numerical methods. Considering body deformation, the body is deflected rapidly in collision and the strain rate occurred in the body is significantly high. It is well known the yield stress of the specific industrial material depends on the strain rate. However, it has not been proved the relationship between the coefficient of restitution and the strain rate in details yet........

  • Abstract:

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid state joining process that involves joining of metals without fusion or filler materials. The frictional heat is produced from a rapidly rotating non- consumable high strength tool pin that extends from a cylindrical shoulder. The process is particularly applicable for aluminum alloys but can be extended to other products also. Plates, sheets and hollow pipes can be welded by this method. The process is also suitable for automation. The weld produced is of finer micro structure and superior in characteristics to that parent metal. FSW finds application in shipbuilding, aerospace, railway, electrical and automotive industry..........

  • Abstract:

Renewable energy resources (RES) are being increas- ingly connected in distribution systems utilizing power electronic converters. This paper presents a novel control strategy for achieving maximum benefits from these grid-interfacing inverters when installed in 3-phase 4-wire distribution systems. The inverter is controlled to perform as a multi-function device by incorporating active power filter functionality. The inverter can thus be utilized as: 1) power converter to inject power generated from RES to the grid, and 2) shunt APF to compensate current unbalance, load current harmonics, load reactive power demand and load neutral current. All of these functions may be accomplished either individually or simultaneously.........

  • Abstract:

The resistance to ethanol of 18 strains of alcoholic yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, including production strains, was studied. It is shown that yeast growth was inhibited by increasing the concentration of ethanol in the medium above 7% (v/v). Successive adaptation of alcohol yeast to gradually increased concentrations of sodium chloride in the medium was carried out. Yeast variants that exceeded production strains in fermentation activity on the medium with 10% (v/v) ethanol were received. The use of selected strains will increase the productivity of the process of ethyl alcohol production at the same costs

  • Abstract:

Reinforced Concrete (RC) building frames are most common types of constructions in urban India. These are subjected to several types of forces during their lifetime, such as static forces due to dead and live loads and dynamic forces due to earthquake. In the present work, two tall buildings (a G+10 and a G+25 structure), presumed to be situated in seismic zone III, are analyzed by using two different methods viz. equivalent static analysis method and response spectrum method, using ETAB 15 software. From analysis results, the parameters like storey drift, storey displacement, Axial Load, Bending Moments are determined for comparative study. Results established the superiority of the Response spectrum method over the Equivalent static analysis method.

  • Abstract:

The Case Based Reasoning is a paradigm of intelligent reasoning which consists on reusing results of previously solved problems (Source Cases) to solve new problems (Target Cases). It has been formalized as a five-step process consisting of: "Elaboration", "Retrieve", "Reuse", "Revise" and "Retain". In this paper we focus on the first phase of the CBR cycle with all of the required modeling to formalize a Case in our CBR-based system for semantic Web service discovery (CBR4WSD). This phase consists in formalizing the problem description and its structuring before launching the "Retrieve" phase and select the most appropriate Source Cases from the Case Base. We identify a set of basic descriptors to formalize Cases handled in our CBR4WSD system. In this conduct and in accordance with CBR policies, we put forward our Case representation model.

  • Abstract:

Rapid consumption of energy from conventional sources can be limited by connecting more no. of distributed generation systems with the support of smart grid technology. But the impact of variation in DG power out putted may lead to power quality problems in the distributed system in which it is connected. In addition to this power system faults, non- linear loads and non-linear characteristics of converter circuits used in DG s further deteriorate quality of the power. Implementation of UPQC in the network itself solves the problems addressed but crowding of more no of DG in the network will suppress the effect of UPQC. However energy storage system integration can suppress the large power fluctuations outputted by DGs. In this paper energy storage based unified power quality conditioner (EUPQC) has been implemented using fuggy logic controller. For energy storage ultra (Super) capacitor has been used for fast rate of charging and discharging. The performance of the implemented UPQC with fuggy logic controller is compared with PI controller with the MATLAB simulation.

We investigate the effects of higher order chemical reactions on coupled heat and mass transfer from a permeable stretching sheet in nanofluid flow with slip boundary conditions. Nanofluids play an important role in emerging nanotechnology and biotechnology industries where they find application in heat transfer processes. We study the effects of the order of the chemical reaction and chemical reaction parameter. The highly nonlinear and coupled governing differential equations were solved numerically. The solution depends on Brownian motion number, thermophoresis number, thermal convective parameter, mass convective parameter and double diffusive buoyancy parameter. The effects of various engineering parameters are investigated.

A study of the Fluid catalytic cracking Unit, with more emphasis on the regenerator is presented. Predictive simulation results for the regenaration temperature, quantity of coke burnt and flue gas composition at different operating conditions are also presented using Hyspen Hysys. The predicted results are compared with plant data and a very good agreement is obtained. Simulation results indicated that the variation of inlet air flowrate have a significant influence on the performance of the regenerator and so the simulation results using the Aspen Hysys can be used to predict the FCCU parameters even if experimental data are not available.
